HEAVEN'S RAIN
This was originally titled "LeeSau" and was written specifically for the memorial service of Lee Eshleman. I had the extraordinary opportunity to have worked with Ted and Lee on Jacob's Ladder and some other things. We had just gotten Jacob's Ladder up and running and the show was ripe, when time ran out for Lee. So on the weekend after his death, Cindy and I tried to encapsulate some of his life on stage. But remember that was only part of his life, the public one. And so it's important to keep that in perspective. Lee was also a husband, a Dad, a brother, a son. His family knew him better than we did. Most people only saw Lee on stage, so the song really only reflects that.
I liked the melody line from the day I wrote it so I didn't want to leave the song back there at Lee's passing. Maybe someday I'll write some new words. For now it's a song of remembrance and the new story has not yet been written. It's only been performed a handful of times since May of 2007 with the original words. If you knew Lee and saw his work these lyrics may stir up some images. Otherwise, it may not connect in quite the same way. But I suppose I'll leave that up to you.
HEAVEN'S RAIN (aka LeeSau) May 2007
Don't be tellin' fish tales in heaven
But tell them about Green Eggs and Ham
Some night when your seated at the angel's supper table
Seated with the great I am.
I hear they got some mah'velous beans and spices.
More than enough to go around.
Do you see how it all Dove Tales together.
Up there walking on holy ground.
So now you're looking into the Savior's Eyes
He'll hold you in His arms, free you from your pain.
Wash your soul in Heaven's Rain.
Blowin' your horn, for the specklotted sheep
Andrew and Peter are there with you.
Nigel Nevillson, he came along for the ride.
We want you to know we miss him too....... (instrumental)
LeeSau, so long now. Someday we'll see you again.
Thanks for the joy, the laughter.
Thank you for being a friend.
And now you've looked into the Savior's Eyes
He's held you in His arms, freed you from your pain.
Washed your soul in Heaven's Rain.
And now you are complete.
God has made you complete.
Now you are complete....Lee.....whole.
