MAPLE AVENUE
Well, what can I say about this one?????? This is one of the
older songs on this recording. Lyrics, music, everything was written back in 1982. Cindy and I did not date very long before we became engaged. Six weeks to be exact and while I wouldn't recommend that to hardly anyone, it worked out. Maple Avenue in Bird-In-Hand Pennsylvania is where I lived when we first met. On one of our first dates we took a long walk along the railroad tracks and found out what we liked and disliked. Turns out the list was fairly similar and we didn't necessarily expect that. So the song lyrics really reflected that conversation about everything from Gummi Bear, licorice, kicking polar bears in the icehole and much much more. They weren't the greatest lyrics I have ever written, but they were and are still very much the story of two people falling in love. I sang it for her a couple of nights later and added one closing line that said I love you. The song is never sung publicly, nor do I expect that anytime soon. About 5 years ago I had a quilt made that told the story and preserved it in another way.......andno you're not going to find the lyrics here. But you can travel to a Maple Avenue of your own and you just might be surprised who you find there. Chances are they are looking for you too.
