"In the Midst" Stories

Tattered & Worn 2005-2008 Jeff Raught

It originally had the title "I Used to Sing The Blues" and that's what the first line was in the lyric. Well, truth be told it was the only line. I could never get any further than that. In 2008 as Ted Swartz and I began work on creating a show, we encountered many different titles. One of those was Tattered & Worn and something clicked. So while I started it almost three years ago, it was only through the process of discovering the material in the show, that the song found it's root. In many ways, I suppose I wrote it based on the lives of two friends, who lived very different lives and yet, we all know sooner or later what it's like to feel tattered and worn.

Tattered & Worn

I've got mixed feelings, I'm upside down

Can't seem to find my way.

It hurts to remember, it hurts to forget.

Tomorrow is just like today.

It all runs together, yet nothing stays the same.

Wondering who I am

So I'm confessin', nearly all the time

I'm feelin' tattered and worn.

Don't talk about it, just try and run away

Escaping to come back home.

Slowly I'm learning, what I knew before.

God's never left me alone.

It all runs together, yet nothing stays the same.

Finding out who I am

Still I'm confessin', nearly all the time

I'm feelin' tattered and worn.

Yes I'm confessin', nearly all the time

I'm feelin' tattered and worn.
